The modern village of Tsenovo was founded in the late 16th-early 17th century. On 14 August 1934, it was renamed to Tsenovo in honour of the influential Svishtov merchant Dimitar Apostolov Tsenov who donated 40 million leva for the construction of the Svishtov University of Economics.

Tsenovo municipality is located in the eastern part of North-Central Bulgaria in Ruse District. The Municipality consists of 9 villages. It is situated along the lower stream of the Yantra River in the Hilly Danube Plain. The Municipality Centre ( village of Tsenovo) is located at the largest curves of Yantra River, 25 km away from the Danube River. Svishtov - Tsenovo - Byala and Svishtov - Tsenovo - Ruse roads pass through Tsenovo. Through Byala railway station, which is 9 km. away, the village is connected to Ruse - Gorna Oriahovitsa railroad.
The District
Ruse Region includes a part of the hilly Danube Plain, the Danube riverside plain of Pobrezhie and part of Ludogorie lowlands. It is bounded by the regions of Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte and Veliko Tarnovo, and borders Romania to the north with the Danube River as a boundary.
