It is located on the Mediterranean arc less than 800 metres from a long fine sandy beach, which is accessible by a pedestrian pathway. Cap D’Agde is the seaside resort at the ancient city of Agde in the department of Herault, Languedoc-Roussillon. Agde, built on the lava flow and rocks of an ancient volcano, offers panoramic views of the l’Herault estuary. It has an imposing cathedral dating from the 12th century, and the remains of the city walls originally built by the Greeks. The town itself is small but very lively- with many cafes and restaurants along the river. Sit and watch the boats and barges passing up and down, and don’t miss the famous river jousting on summer evenings. To avoid the midday heat, meander through the narrow cobbled lanes and visit delightful boutiques selling local produce, arts and crafts in Rue de l’Amour. Try one of the many restaurants offering three course menus for €15, and don’t miss the wonderfully fresh seafood! On the Jeu de Ballon Square, just at the top of Rue Jean Roger, try the oyster stand where you can buy fresh oysters every day, and wash them down with cool white wine. Or explore the area on bicycle- there is a cycle path running along the river to the resort of Grau D’Agde and on to Cap D’Agde.
The Marina at Cap D'Agde is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The place is an enormous seaside playground with beaches, sports centres, nightclubs, children's golf areas and much more. Cap D'Agde has about 14 km of sandy beaches, with large expanses of golden sand dotted with smart beachfront cafes and small coves of rocky outcrops ideal for snorkelling. The Languedoc's warm winds make Cap D'Agde and ideal venue for kite flying, kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing.
