Description:
This is a rare opportunity for someone with vision and ambition to create a business within the Swedish tourism-industry or simply find a tranquil country house for holidays or permanent living at price that’s non-existing in the UK or Ireland!
About the house:
This unique villa, in the land of the midnight sun, was built ca 1890 by the time-honoured forestry company, MoDomsjö. It was designed and built to the highest standards of the time, in the normal timber frame, as the squires residence for the acclaimed College of Forestry in Ångermanland.
Many elders in the whole county have numerous tales to tell about their educational years at Mariero and indeed, several of them have signed their names in nooks and crannies as a legacy!
In this part of Sweden, which is close to the border of southern Lapland in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the house was considered a marvel and is still referred to as “the manor” by the locals, or “Mariero” which roughly translates into “Maria’s tranquillity” and the name is very apt. As soon as you step into the house, you are struck by it’s atmosphere of calm and tranquillity.
The present owner bought Mariero 6 years ago with a guesthouse in mind. It had then been used as a summer-residence for some 40 years and needed a lot of up-dating including a new central heating-system, plumbing and rewiring apart from redecorating.
There’s still work left to do which can be seen as a chance to put ones own stamp on it.
This is only the 3rd time this very special house is sadly and reluctantly for sale since it was built, due to family circumstances. This kind of house is seldom found on the market as they tend to stay within families for generations.
A brief description of the house:
You walk into a big entrance hall with a loo and space for coats. There are original doors leading into an impressive, big sitting room, perfect for harmonious evenings in front of the fire with a good book, music, a game of chess or a nice meal overlooking the garden and the lake. Ships swing doors lead into a formal dining room that have French doors to the veranda that is partly glazed. The Jugend furniture in this room is bespoke for the house.
The big country kitchen has a separate entrance, a wood burning stove as well as new, modern appliances. The walk-in-larder is a cook’s dream! Behind the kitchen is a bedroom that’s also been used as an office. Two different phone lines can be had. Needles to say, there’s Internet and satellite -TV ( Including BBC!) in the house. and there’s plenty of room for washing machines, dishwashers, storage etc. The dining room can be reached that way too, previously used by staff.
Upstairs there’s a big hall with another fireplace. The huge antique desk has been in the house since ca 1920. There are 4 bedrooms, a TV-room with a balcony and a small pantry with a fridge and a bathroom. Unfortunately only the one, but there’s plenty of space to create others!
In the basement you will find the boiler for solid fuel and el. as well as plenty of storage. This is reached via the kitche
